Hi everybody,
meet lilynet.net, the new platform I’ve just opened, that is meant to become some kind of a community-driven website around the GNU LilyPond project.
Already available are:
Of course, it’s still under construction; although I do have some ideas about its future, I hope LilyPonders around the world will take advantage of it and come up with ideas of their own.
And before you ask, no, it is not supposed to be yet another place to look at whenever you’re searching for something. On the contrary, I hope that this website can make finding informations easier, thanks to its visibility and by gathering, linking to, or syndicating as many external resources we can. Whether you’re searching for a specific LilyPond score, the latest update for a LilyPond editor plugin, or a LilyPond-composer interview, this ideally should be the place where you can find anything that is not in the official Documentation.
For instance, since various LilyPonders have a blog, we could gather their blog posts using the Planet system, like at Planet GNOME. Or, if some users want to start their own mini-blog right here, we certainly can arrange that.
Another thing we could do would be to have a NetVibes-like aggregator that would automatically display news feeds, events, gizmos: I’m thinking about the GPL-licensed Posh system, that, among other features, is compatible with iGoogle gadgets. This could allow us, for example, to syndicate LilyPond scores from Mutopia as well as other online libraries.
One more idea: it would be great to have a user-generated Gallery to showcase interesting scores. It would provide us with an immediate answer to users who are asking such questions as: "Is LilyPond suitable to write contemporary scores?" or "Can I write ancient arabic music with LilyPond?"; besides, I’m sure there are composers or musicians amongst us that would happily benefit from some extra visibility ![]()
Finally, this website is hosted on a dedicated server. It’s not powerful enough to run a LSR-like engine, but it is able to run LilyPond once in a while. Just saying.
Anyway, if you have an idea, want to get involved, want to share an RSS feed or whatever, feel free to give me a ping!
Regards,
Valentin.
I thought it would be nice if you make the newsletter like a blog (and the address maybe something like blog.lilypond.org).
